Red Desk Makeover

I hope everyone is enjoying the first day of 2011! I HAVE ALREADY BLOWN MY DIET ON THE FIRST DAY, OH WELL THERE'S ALWAYS TOMORROW. I wanted to share this desk makeover with you. I don't know what in the world I did with the before shots, I am thinking maybe I took them without my SIM card?!It was your classic finish that had been unfortunately abused. I love the curves and style of this desk and I thought she would be gorgeous in red. I used my favorite shade of red which is Valspar Berry, then I glazed with my Asphaltum antiquing glaze {also by Valspar}.

I just love a glossy finish on red pieces~

I thought the original hardware was great!

I lined the drawers with this gorgeous fabric I purchased for recovering my kitchen chairs. It is called Covington Wilmington Multi. I purchased it here for $12.80  a yard. That's an awesome price considering Calico Corners is selling the same fabric for $24.99! Check out this gorgeous chair they feature on their website in this fabric~

I am feeling some serious fabric love!
Here is a pic of one of my kitchen chairs, not nearly so impressive but I love it just the same!

Hi Chrissie!

I ADORE this red desk....so sweet. It turned out great. The fabric is FABULOUS also. I've been feeling like I want to line some of the yucky drawers I run across. Do you just measure, cut, and use spray adhesive? I've gotta do more of that on my pieces.

Happy New Year to you. It's been so nice having you as a follower in 2010. Can't wait to get more and more inspiration from your great blog.

Best in 2011,

Cori

Chrissie this is just spectacular! I have been checking out your previous posts and you are very talented. I love love love your work! Your pieces have so much character.
I have been dying to paint something of mine red and I was thinking of a storage bench seat I have had sitting around. I would really appreciate your advice. It's the first picture in my most recent post. I told my Mum that I wanted to paint it red but she looked at me like I was strange :( I was also going to put a nice fabric on the lid.
Anyhoo, I would love it if you could take a look and tell me your thoughts?
I hope you had a terrific Christmas and New Year.
Megs :)

Hi Chrissy, thank you for the nice comment on my blog, wow you really are a hard worker and so talented with your collections! Red's my favorite color too. I just picked up some fabric myself at GoodWill, it's similar to some Anthropology patterns. I'm learning to sew, so we'll see how it goes ;) now following your lovely blog, tami

Alrighty, your gonna be my inspiration here. I am about to do another piece of furniture. It is a dresser to be turned into a buffet. I have been afraid to do the red, but after seeing yours, I am going for it. Be looking for a post in the next week or two.

Sherry said...

I love the red. I will be doing some furniture painting soon but don't think red will work in my living room. I will try to be a little adventurous with color though, thanks for the inspiration.
