Retro Chic China Cabinet TRANSFORMATION

I have had the most fun with this china cabinet makeover. Talk about a transformation. Check out this before and after. I purchased this cabinet along with a matching table and chairs off of Craigslist right after Christmas. The set has a very retro feel to me and I wanted to do something fun. I primed and painted with Valspar Mediterranean. I chose not to distress or glaze, which is rare for me.Check out this before picture, pretty yucky. I took the metal pieces out of the doors because they did not coordinate with the "retro chic"  look I was going for.

I had to totally take the cabinet apart to remove all of the glass and get the shelves out. Since the back  was already off  I decided to try something fun.  I attached this fun polka dot fabric to the back. For days I stressed about how to go about putting the fabric on, as I have never done it before. I purchased spray adhesive but when I started reading the back of the can it scared me to death! In the end I decided it was the best choice. I did not want the fabric coming loose in the future.

I laid my fabric out and put the back on top to trace an outline so I could cut to size.
Here is the fabric laid out in my back porch table.I decided to cover the part that was  originally facing the back because it was pretty yucky looking.
I applied the fabric in 3 sections. Applying the spray and waiting  a few seconds before pressing on the fabric. Then I smoothed it with my hands and rolled the additional lumps out with the brayer. You will need to work fairly quickly here.
Here is the adhesive I used, it worked wonderfully and I lived through spraying it without damage to my nervous system LOL! I did purchase a brayer from Hobby Lobby for this project, it was 15.99 but so worth it. There were cheaper ones but I have learned that you get what you pay for on this type of stuff, learned the hard way, many times. I would have to say this is the secret to a smooth professional looking job.
My little helper! I did make him stand on the other side of the yard while I sprayed.

I primed and sprayed the existing hardware a creamy white to coordinate with the polka dots.

How fun! I love the color and the white hardware, although they are not as cute as your little helper! That's funny, I was spraying yesterday and made my little Zach go the the other end of the yard while I sprayed, too! :)
