This french provincial dresser is another one of he pieces I picked up off of Craigslist a couple of weeks ago. It has a lovely shape but is not the quality I prefer to work with. The dresser had a laminate top and the drawer fronts are essentially plastic. To prepare this piece for painting I used spray primer, I started off using spray paint but quickly remembered why I hate to use that stuff! The can I was using started to drip without me realizing UGH! I had to scrape off the whole top and start over. In the end I used Valspar satin black which I already had in the garage. I finished the piece with spray poly.
My favorite part of this piece are the drawer interiors. They are pink (no surprise there) and I love the fabric with Parisian shopping scenes.
The smudges on the drawer tops are from candle wax, I applied it to help the drawers glide better.
I sprayed the hardware with Rustoleum Satin Nickel| Before |

What a beauty! You did an excellent job with this piece.
Beautiful job Chrissie! I really love the color and the fun fabric you chose for the drawers!

The fabric is so beautiful and I can't believe that the dresser is of a cheaper quality! The 'afters' are GORGEOUS! Just goes to show you that anything can look fab. after undergoing one of your makeovers!
I think I just bought this exact dresser at Salvation Army. I bought it for the lines, but the quality is not the best (particle board and plastic). I'm thinking about investing in chalk paint so I don't have to prime it.
Your dresser came out fantastic, and now I am even more inspired!
oo la la! It is beautiful, Chrissie. I love the colors.
Very nice! Love the drawers also, the unexpected Perfect!
that looks so classic and beautiful and elegant! i am just finishing two black dressers. i hadn't used black in a while and i remembered why- i fid it harder to work with as far as finishing. i hope mine turn out half as lovely!
I love it, especially the inside!!! So classy on the outside and fun inside!
PERFECT!!!!!
Gorgeous! I know that laminate and wood veneer are such a pain in the a** to work with, but you've done an amazing job. Love ya drawers! :)
That turned out beautiful and the pink paper is very fitting! Lovely, Chrissie.
Laminate tops are the worst but you totally pulled it off. It looks beautiful! JenT

I'm so glad you stopped by today. I LOVE your blog and glad I found you. I just finished the matching night stand to your dresser and believe it or not, it's also done in black. How funny!
For you this is sedate but I love black and we all need a bit of sedate sometimes too. Totally fun and I love the liner.

Beautiful!!
I just saw this on the blue cricket link party and it stopped me in my tracks! You dd such a beautiful job on this piece. I love the brown fronts with the black top and bottom. The finishing touch though is the inside of the drawers, fun and fresh.
Your makeover is fabulous! Love it in black.. and I also love the little touches of pink inside the drawers. Thats adorable.

What a great job you did! this inspires me to tackle my dresser.
Fantastic!! Love the pink interiors! Can I show this on a post I am doing on French Provincial furniture makeovers (with a link back, of course!)?
This turned out very nice. I want to know where the fabric came from, too!
This is beautiful, Chrissie! I'm hoping to find a similar piece one day to use in my dining room as a buffet piece. You do such a good job on these pieces ~ I may have to come to you for advice on the dresser I just rescued!
found this today as i was looking for inspiration to redo a "plastic" veneer, pressed board little french provincial dresser i am about to pick up on the cheap... it's not going to be the highest quality piece, but it will hold someones stuff just fine - and after I am finished with it - it will be cute again too :-))
Thanks for the inspiration as always!!
ps - the pink drawers are the money makers - adorable!!
